3D Chess (1991)
3D is the natural evolution of classic board strategy games, such as chess and checkers. Instead of taking place on a plane, the game takes place in three-dimensional space by adding numerous degrees of freedom, but also of difficulty, to the movement of the pieces.
The game takes place on a tubular structure called a grid. To facilitate the exact positioning of the pieces, the axes of the grid are colored in three different colors in order to visually distinguish the three spatial axes: red (forward / backward), green (right / left), blue (bottom / top). Players place their pieces (gray or blue) hooking them to the grid.

PS The only thing like this I've ever seen is in Big Bang Theory (2007-2019) which is about 20 years later.
